Established in 1997, Florida Hospital Celebration Health was built as part of Disney's planned community, Celebration. When The Walt Disney Company decided to construct a "new town" located near its Walt Disney World Resort complex, it sought proposals for the construction and management of a hospital as part of the community. From the earliest stages of planning, the new 315,000-square-foot (29,300 m2) hospital was envisioned as a "state-of-the-art" physical environment that would promote healing. Designed with a Mediterranean resort-style theme, it incorporated architectural components that were considered at that time to be cutting-edge, including the extensive use of natural light and gardens; patient rooms and other spaces that were designed to encourage family involvement; artwork; and sound management techniques. The idea was to create a welcoming environment for patients and families. [1]
At present, the hospital has 112 beds in operation and has been at capacity for some time. However, the facility intends to expand to reach about 350 beds by 2015.
Florida Hospital Celebration Health provides inpatient and outpatient services, 24-hour emergency care, maternity, cardiac, diagnostic and catheterization services, wellness programs, women's and men's health programs, as well as primary care and specialty physicians on-site. Beyond these usual services, the facility features a range of specific service lines, including bariatrics, women's’ services (OB/GYN), sports medicine, joint and hip replacement and spine treatment. On average, the hospital handles more than 50,000 emergency visits, nearly 80,000 inpatient admissions and outpatient visits combined and delivers almost 2,000 babies annually.
In early 2011, Florida Hospital Celebration Health announced it will be increasing the number of beds available from 112 beds to 174 beds to help meet the demand of population growth. [3]
Florida Hospital Celebration Health focuses its programs, training and services around eight universal principles of health, otherwise known as the CREATION Health method: Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal relationships, Outlook and Nutrition.[4]
Florida Hospital Celebration Health has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as “One of America’s Best Hospitals” for ten years[5]. Clinical specialties recognized have included: Cardiology, Orthopedics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Urology, Gynecology, Digestive Disorders, Hormonal Disorders, Kidney Disease, Ear, Nose & Throat and Endocrinology. Celebration Health also received the National Research Corporation Consumer Choice Award. In addition, the hospital has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. It is the only medical facility in Central Florida with this distinction[6].
In 2010, Florida Hospital Celebration Health's Metabolic Medicine and Surgery Institute and Joint Replacement Center earned the Gold Seal of Approval for health care quality.[7]
